John Jowitt interview Feb 2011.

"Mostly Pink had a talk with John Jowitt from the other side of the pond
and John was well dressed as ever."

Favorite poem?
Here's one for you that my Dad taught me:

Abu Ben Adam (may his tribe increase)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace
And saw, within the moonlight of his room
Making it rich, like a lily in bloom
An angel writing in a book of gold.

Exceeding peace had made Abu Ben Adam bold
And to the presence in his room he said
'What writest thou?'
The vision raised its head
And with a look of all sweet accord
Answered: 'The names of those who love the Lord.

'And is mine one?' said Abu.
'Nay not so'
Replied the Angel:
Abu spoke more low But cheerily still and said
'I pray thee then
Write me as one that loves his fellow-men'
The angel wrote and vanished.

The next night It came again with awaking light
And showed the names of whom love of God had blessed.
And lo! Ben Adam's name led all the rest.

Abu Ben Adam by Leigh Hunt.
The 5 All time Questions?

1. What are the 5 things you can't live without?
Music, poetry, friends, smiles and good beer.
2. Your 5 favourite albums all time?
Magazine "Play"
Mr Bungle "Mr Bungle"
Joni Mitchell "Blue"
Kings X "Dogman"
Yes "Tales from Topographic Oceans".
3. What's your favourite motto or the advice you live by?
Never ever bloody anything ever.
4. Do you regret something in your life?
Quite a few things, actually. Generally where I feel I could have done better at something, or treated someone better.
5. Why do we need to see Paul Menel, you and the band?
Classic iQ songs iQ haven't played for 20 years, the great voice of Mr Menel, cracking band, and my lovely legs.

Assorted things to know:

1. What has been the biggest moment of your career thus far?

Depends what you mean by biggest. ParkPop with John Wetton, playing with Frost* joining iQ, The Visitor with Arena, all great moments.
2. Where will John Jowitt be in 10 years?
Still playing the bass or down St Andrews, watching Birmingham City FC. Or in the Plough and Harrow...
3. You joined IQ in '91 after the tragical death of Les "Ledge" Marshall, did you know him, can you tell something about his death?
II saw Ledge a few times when Ark supported iQ on the 'Are You Sitting Comfortably' tour, but never got to talk to him. I know he took his own life, but I don't know anything more.
4. When did you met Paul Menel?
On the support shows with Ark for iQ's Are You Sitting Comfortably tour in 1989. That was the last time too, before PMB.

5. How do you look back to the IQ-years?
Some of the most wonderful moments of my life and also some of the most incredibly frustrating years
6. You're a frequently asked session musician, what was the weirdest, funniest session, tour?
I'd have to say a week of shows in England with a country rock singer from across the water, the band featuring John Mitchell on guitar and Paul Cook on drums, about 7-8 years ago. Appallingly organised, but still fun, culminating in a gig in Harrogate in a a stage in the window of a pub...
7. What else do you want to share with us ?
Do you enjoy what you do? If not - then stop. Don't stand there and rot! (the sage George Michael)
