Original tracklist.
+ some words of Bryan.
I remember one Christmas morning,
The Winter's light and a distant choir,
And the peal of a bell and that Christmas tree smell,
And eyes full of tinsel and fire.
They sold me a dream of Christmas,
They sold me a silent night,
They told me a fairy story,
'Til I believed in the Israelite.
And I believed in Father Christmas,
And I looked to the sky with excited eyes,
Then I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn,
And I saw him and through his disguise.
I wish you a hopeful Christmas,
I wish you a brave New Year,
All anguish, pain and sadness,
Leave your heart and let your road be clear.
They said there'd be snow at Christmas,
They said there'd be peace on earth,
Hallelujah! Noel!, be it Heaven or Hell,
The Christmas we get, we deserve.
"As the popularity of the band has grown, newcomers often approach us asking us to define Mostly Autumn, or to point them to one CD that best captures the spirit of the band. With six years growth and a catalogue of five albums it'ss never an easy task to pick one release which describes the whole of what we are - and have been.
Coupled with this situation, there are versions of songs on previous CD's that I felt could be improved upon. The emotion and sincerity has always been there on all the material we have ever recorded, but the very tight time pressures we have usually operated under, has restricted our ability to explore the potential of much of that material to its fullest.
For me this album marks the end of the first chapter in the evolution of the band. I was never happy with the idea of an ordinary compilation and felt strongly that we should we create a new set of recordings for this anthology. We hope that this record will give a whole new generation of listeners, promoters and DJ's a starting point.
What you now hold is a good reflection of the varying colours and textures of Mostly Autumn. It's a calling card if you like. Of course if you are already familiar with our music, it'ss also a chance for to hear the songs revisited from a slightly different angle.
I am personally blown away by this CD and I hope you are too. I am constantly overawed by the support and encouragement of people like you from all around the world who have brought us this far, I hope you continue with us for the next chapter.
See you on the road soon." Bryan Josh
