From origin French hippy-band formed arround the Aussie David Allen (ex-Softmachine; Kevin Ayers, Robert Wyatt
and Mike Ratledge) en Englishman Steve Hillage. Together with drummer Pierre Moerlin, Didier Malherbe and Mike Howlett are these guys the constant factor in the band. Psychedelica, funky space-rock, experimental jazz and fusion with a lot of guestmusicians:
Gong had two main phases (as well as many peculiar off-shoots): psychedlia under the leadership of Daevid Allen, and straight fusion under Pierre Moerlen.
The group split up in Mother Gong & Pierre Moerlen's Gong.
